Having opened a new door of my own in the last several months, it means a lot. There is at first the fear of letting go of the old and familiar. What you know about is always hard to let go of. Then there is the initial fear of opening the door and walking into the unknown.

Then that is followed by the period of questioning wheter or not you made the right decision. For awhile the security of what you knew seems better than the unknown that you now face. But eventually as you grow acclimated to your new surroundings, you become so happy that you made the right decision.

Fear of the unknown is a great motivator. You strive even harder to do your best and make that unknown the future familiar. I don't think anyone ever succeeds truly without taking some risks in life.
